Akeana has announced a little about its RISC-V processor intellectual property.

Akeana reveals its RISC-V cores

There will be three series:

  • 100 Series – configurable 32bit RISC-V cores for embedded microcontrollers
  • 1000 Series – includes 64bit RISC-V cores and a memory management unit, optional support for multi-threading and extensions including: vector, hypervisor and AI computation.
  • 5000 Series – 64bit RISC-V cores optimised for laptops, data centers and cloud infrastructure, compatible with 1000 Series at higher single thread performance.

It also has a collection of ancillary IP blocks such as a coherent cluster cache controller, an IO memory manager and an interrupt controller. Large coherent mesh multi-core systems can also be managed, and there is a size-configurable AI matrix engine on which to off-load AI-related calculations – which can be attached to the coherent cluster cache block for data sharing.

The company, founded three years ago and headquartered in San Jose, has over $100m from investors including Kleiner Perkins, Mayfield and Fidelity.

“Formed by the same team that designed Marvell’s ThunderX2 server chips, Akeana offers customisable IP solutions for semiconductor markets ranging from microcontrollers to mobile to automotive and cloud computing,” according to the company.
