It has also announced the Tria Technologies business group which will also include its compute design and manufacturing capabilities.
Tria Technologies will support OEMs with design either from scratch or using off-the-shelf products and will also make custom designs.
Tria will be the new brand name for the company’s embedded compute boards and system products used by customers to progress from design to mass production in a shorter time. The Tria modules can be used “as-is” in a product design, or as a starting point for customisation, explained the company rather than OEMs having to start from scratch or compromise by using an off-the-shelf compute product, said Avnet.
“Tria incorporates Avnet’s previous Embedded business unit – which has design and manufacturing capabilities and teams all over the world (America, Europe and Asia). A spokesperson said the Tria business is “unique because distributors typically don’t have their own global design and manufacturing businesses. We work with our supplier partners to help design and produce compute modules based on their chips. These modules can then be used by OEMs who don’t need to invest in their own design process, helping them to get to market in a much shorter time.”
Avnet has provided compute and system design services for OEMs “for decades” in a range of applications “from medical devices to household appliances for globally recognised brand names” including collaborations with partners such as Qualcomm Technologies.
Tria has technology campuses in Stutensee and Freiburg, Germany, specialising in manufacturing and assembly and “leveraging the latest technology and logistics for high precision, efficiency, and security”, said the company.
Tria Technologies is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Avnet, connected to its worldwide distribution network and will collaborate with Avnet’s other businesses.
