So, 64 years ago, started a story in Electronics Weekly’s edition of October 26 1960
The story continues:
The valve operates at 400 to 610 Mc/s and is mechanically tuned by external cavities.
Amplitude or pulse modulation is available by the use of an insulated anode which also gives protection when connected to the klystron body through a high resistance.
Focussing electromagnets, tuning cavities and adjustable load couplers for the second, third and output cavities are supplied separately. Cooling is by water and forced air and the net weight is approximately 64 pounds.
A typical gain figure is 27 db, with a bandwidth of 5 Mc/s and a power output of 10kW.
