Most Read articles – EV charging, Gordon Moore, Fab capacity

Let’s take a quick look at the top five most read articles on ElectronicsWeekly.com, which were written in the last week, using the objective stats of Google Analytics. It’s a chance to see what your peers have mostly been reading.

What are the topics covered? There’s EV charging, the state of the semiconductor market for 2023, a tribute to Gordon Moore, a SEMI report on fab capacity, and a video interview from Embedded World 2023…

Most Read articles – EV charging, Gordon Moore, Fab capacity5. Skyworks and Wolfspeed advance EV charging
Created to be easily implemented in power switching designs by engineers, the new gate driver board (GDB) kit offers a low inductance layout, proven bill of materials, and complete design documentation, ensuring a smooth integration process. Skyworks Solutions is introducing the next iteration of its isolated GDB reference design, the Si828x-BAWB-KIT. These gate driver boards are suited for SiCFETs with an optimised gate driver board layout.

4. Auto the one bright spot, says SI
Automotive appears to be about the only bright spot in the semiconductor market for 2023, says Seniconductor Intelligence. Forecasts for the overall semiconductor market range from a decline of 4% to a decline of 20%. Semiconductor companies generally have bleak outlooks for the start of 2023, citing excess inventories and weak end market demand.

3. Gordon Moore
Last Friday, Gordon Moore died in Hawaii at the age of 94. In the Intel Trinity Bob Noyce was the charismatic genius, Andy Grove the driven, intense implementer and Gordon Moore was the thinker. It is revealing that when asked by imec CEO Luc van den Hove who were the three people he most admired in the industry he said Noyce and Grove. The third was John Bardeen.

2. Foundry, memory and power to drive fab capacity expansion
300mm fab capacity will reach 9.6 million wpm in 2026, says SEMI’s 300mm Fab Outlook to 2026 report. “While the pace of the global 300mm fab capacity expansion is moderating, the industry remains squarely focused on growing capacity to meet robust secular demand for semiconductors,” says Ajit Manocha, SEMI President and CEO, “the foundry, memory and power sectors will be major drivers of the new record capacity increase expected in 2026

1. Let’s Talk Electronics: MikroE and BrainChip on remote development and neuromorphic computing
Electronics Weekly’s Group Editor, Clive Couldwell, caught up with MikroE and BrainChip in Nuremberg at Embedded World 2023 to discuss their technologies in more depth. With Nandan Nayampally – CMO of BrainChip – he discussed neuromorphic computing, how it works and possible applications. And with Neb Matic – CEO of MikroElektronika – they considered remote embedded development, working on a board via live streaming.
