Edinburgh microdisplay developer MicroEmissive Displays has secured $3m of further investment to help take its active-matrix organic light-emitting polymer (OLEP) technology to market. The funding is a combination of venture capital and private investment.
“The introduction of two new investors at this stage in the company’s development reflects the strong potential of the near-eye microdisplay market in general, and MED in particular,” said Bill Campbell, the company’s CEO.
MED’s existing backers include Scottish Equity Partners, BASF Venture Capital, and 3i.
“MED is poised to enter the commercial stage of its development and will be the first company worldwide to offer an OLEP microdisplay to the rapidly growing digital camera and camcorder markets,” said Neil Crabb of Sigma Technology Management, one of the new investors.
