UK display firm goes into administration

Oxfordshire-based display company Printable Field Emitters (PFE) has gone into administration.

Few details are available. Sources close to the company said its research facility in Harwell has been closed.

PFE was developing second-generation field-emission displays (FEDs).

Second-generation FEDs avoid the use of high-resolution lithography and can therefore be used to make large flat displays – including big screen televisions.

PFE was among the leaders in developing second-generation FEDs and had just produced a colour demonstrator.
