“Compared with previous members of the product family, the chips are twice as large as the previous ones but, at 5.7 x 6.4 x 1.3mm, the package size is only slightly larger,” said the firm – up from 4.8 x 5.9 x 1.23mm.
Each of the four die – red, green, blue and white, is 2mm2 and can handle up to 4.5A.

Binned at 1.4A, typical output is red=140 lm, green=280 lm, deep blue=1.8W. “If the LED is operated at 4.5A, the brightness per colour increases by factor 2.6″, said Osram.
The white die has a ceramic phosphor, helping to achieve 20,000h lifetime (L50/B50) at 1,000 lm full output.
Stage and exhibition lighting are the intended markets. “Our aim with this new LED is to raise the standard for moving heads in the high-output category,” said product marketing manager Wolfgang Schnabel.
See the LED at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next week.
