Samsung Z – Tizen smartphone

The company is releasing a new smartphone, the Samsung Z, that runs on Tizen, an alternative Linux-based operating system. This is created by the Tizen Assocation, which includes Intel and Huawei as well as Samsung

The phone will be released in Russia in the third quarter, reports ZDNet – see Samsung unveils its first Tizen phone

The Samsung Z has a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display at 1280×720 pixels and will arrive with Tizen 2.2.1. As a ‘premium’ phone, it will come with LTE support, a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB onboard storage and a microSD slot. The device has an eight megapixel rear-facing camera and 2.1-megapixel front-facing equivalent compared with the S5’s 16-megapixel and two-megapixel camera pair.

The BBC reports Samsung will show off the phone at a Tizen Developer Conference, being held this week in San Francisco.

There is no word that Intel will feature inside, in the form of that 2.3GHz quad-core applications processor

Back in February, Samsung dropped Android from its Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatches in favour of Tizen. And apparently, the system has also featured in Samsung Smart TVs.
