The area of RoHS exemptions continues to be an important issue for firms looking to comply with the Directive which came into force in July. Finding out which products and items are exempt from the RoHS Directive is an area of some debate at present.
The distributor has been working with ERA Technology, which itself has worked with the European Commission, to create an online record of exemptions, including those formally approved, those rejected, any in limbo and ones requested but still pending.
According to Farnell, there are currently 28 applications which have been formally approved as exempt, three either rejected or withdrawn, one in limbo and over 70 requested but pending a decision.
“Traditionally, in order to find a comprehensive list of exemptions, engineers would have to spend a great deal of time trawling through a variety of websites such as the European Commission’s and the DTI’s,” said Gary Nevison, head of product market strategy at Farnell InOne.
Alternatively, interested parties can subscribe to ERA Technology’s environmental newsletter where they can view the list in the July edition of the RE4view publication.
