Powerbox has announced a ruggedised 1,200W ac-dc power supply for ground-based defense applications and harsh industrial environments.
Called OFD1200A and suitable for use inside sealed enclosures, it has a metal chassis and requires cooling by conduction though its baseplate – which needs to be maintained between -40 and +95°C (derating applies sometimes – see the product manual).
Shock and vibration ruggedisation is to MIL-STD810H and they are designed for sustained 20G shocks. The electronics are conformally coated.
“The product is electrically ruggedised to withstand harsh transients and meet demanding EMC performance levels as required with most common defense and the more demanding industrial applications, according to MIL-STD- 461 CE-102, and also meeting MIL-STD-1399-300,” said the company.
Input can vary across 85 to 305Vac (100 – 277Vac nominal) and 47 – 63Hz. Power factor correction is included: to 0.98 at 110Vac and 0.95 at 230Vac.
Four nominal output voltages are available: 12 (84A), 28(43A), 48 (25A) and 65V (18.5A). Peak efficiency is 92% for the 48V version running from 230Vac.
“Output voltage and current can be adjusted from near zero to the maximum allowed for each model,” said Powerbox. For example, the 28V version can be adjusted across ~0V to 33.6V and ~0A to 43A.
This adjustment is via on-board potentiometers or electrically through trim pins. “The control function simplifies the utilisation of the power supply in constant-voltage or constant-current mode without adding external circuitry,” said Powerbox.
Other connections offer output voltage sensing, an isolated power-good output and a wired on-off remote control.
For more power or built-in-redundancy, up to nine units can paralleled be to deliver up to 9.72kW. An option (‘-O’) on 28 and 48V models adds a mosfet for active Or-ing
In-out isolation is 3kVac, in-ground is 2kVac and out-ground is 500Vac.
Protections include over-current (with auto recovery), over-voltage and over-temperature.
Measurements are 142 x 40 x 340mm and 1.8kg.
Certification is to UL62368-1 3rd edition and cUL (“equivalent to CAN/CSA-C22.2 No.62368-1”, said Powerbox), and they conform to European RoHS, REACH and Low Voltage Directives.
CE, UKCA and cURus markings are carried, and warranty is three years.
