80W 12V railway PSU operates from 14.4 to 154V

Autronic has created an 80W dc-dc power supply for on-board railway use, which produces 12V (adjustable) from supplies between 14.4 and 154V, covering “all international on-board voltages from 24V to 110V in a single device”, it said.

Dubbed HFBC80-W/Ks, output voltage is adjustable, and devices can be connected in parallel for more current. Efficiency can reach 92%.

The units measure 113 x 46 x 35mm, including in-built Class S2 (10ms) hold-up storage, but need a heatsink as they are conduction-cooled. Operation is across -40 to 85°C.

In-rush current is limited, and there is protection against over-voltage, over-temperature, reverse polarity, open-circuit and continuously short-circuit.

For harsh environments, encapsulation mitigates vibrations, shocks and surge bursts, “and it can be used in environments with high humid heat”, said Autronic. Compliance is to railway safety standards including EN 50155 and EN 50121-3-2 (EMC).
