Ubotica brings Space:AI to MESEO Earth Observation project

Ubotica, the Irish space AI specialist, is taking part in the MESEO project. This aims to develop a “flexible, and scalable multi-mission Earth Observation system for large-scale data processing”.

MESEO is a Horizon Europe-backed initiative, part of the European Union’s Space Programme for improving the use of Earth Observation data. It is running from 1 December 2023 until 30 November 2026.

MESEO

Basically, MESEO aims to demonstrate managing the huge amount of data that numerous satellites must transfer to a range of end users. These include applications for environmental monitoring, defence and security, logistics, food production and insurance, etc.

The Dublin-based company is part of a consortium that also includes Airbus, Resolvo (Italy), Satlantis (Spain), Sistema (France), the University of Ferrara (Italy), Creotech Instruments (Poland) and Sovity (Germany). GMV, a private capital technology business group, will lead the project.

Ubotica will be contributing its specialism in combining AI with Computer Vision for EdgeAI. There will also be its custom Neural Networks to solve Earth Observation challenges on-board spacecraft.

Specifically, for MESEO, it will be responsible for the development and deployment of AI-driven image triaging and in-line processing for on-board processing. This will be done by its Space:AI’s system. It prioritises and transmits only the most relevant Earth Observation data for immediate analysis or action.

“We are excited to contribute to MESEO’s ambitious objectives and we look forward to the innovative advancements this partnership will bring to the space industry,” said Dr. Aubrey Dunne, Co-Founder and CTO at Ubotica.

“Our AI-driven solutions are poised to revolutionise how data is processed on board, enhancing overall efficiency and effectiveness. The MESEO system will significantly benefit from the integration of these solutions.”
