Energy harvesting SoCs extend Mouser Electronics’ IoT offering

Mouser Electronics has signed a distribution partnership deal with Atmosic Technologies. The latter’s low power and energy harvesting wireless Blueooth SoCs and evaluation kits are used by tier one consumer brands, said the company.

“With Atmosic products now in stock at Mouser, IoT product developers around the world have immediate access to their extremely low-power wireless portfolio,” said Andy Kerr, Mouser’s vice president of supplier management.

The initial inventory available from the distributor includes evaluation kits, the ATM2 and ATM3 series of SoCs. Further products will be introduced later this year, confirmed Mouser. The ATM2 and ATM3 SoCs combine a low power Bluetooth LE with an integrated power management unit. The ATM3 also has intelligent management of energy harvesting sources to improve efficiency and extend battery life, using a single battery for a product’s lifespan or enable battery-free operation in IoT applications.

Atmosic claimed that its SoCs have the industry’s lowest power consumption and that its wireless solutions that can harvest energy from light, motion, thermal and radio frequency (RF) sources. The energy harvesting solutions also support the new AirFuelRF wireless power specification, which uses RF technology to allow multiple devices to be charged and/or powered at the same time and from a distance.

Mike Fortin, senior vice president of sales at Atmosic, commented: “Mouser’s strong commitment to reducing their impact on the environment aligns well with our mission of reducing battery waste, so we look forward to working together to promote a greener IoT.”

In addition to the environmental benefits of extending battery life, or eliminating the need for batteries altogether, the SoCs reduce maintenance time and costs for IoT nodes and end-users.
