MicroSD card slot is robust and easily inspected

Rutronik has picked the ST12 from JAE for customers seeking a ‘push-push’ microSD card connector that is robust – up to 10,000 mating cycles – and whose solder joints can be inspected – as the case is cut away.

“This series makes its inspection and repair simpler through the use of external surface-mount leads, which are visible and easily accessible,” according to the parts distributor. “Also, the mechanical locking structure with stopper and lock components prevents dislodgement of cards due to vibration
or physical shock, and the multiple hold-downs ensure secure retention of the connector to the
PCB even under harsh conditions.”

The connectors are compatible with UHS-I and measure 1.4 x 14.6 x 15.3mm.

An 0.7mm push is required to release the card, after which it emerges to reveal 3.8mm of card to grip. A switch contact closes when a card is properly inserted.

There are ten contacts, with an initial contact resistance of ≤100 mΩ and rated at 10V 500mA. Dielectric strength is 500Vrms (one minute_ and initial insulation resistance is at least 1GΩ.

Application are foreseen in phones, tablets, drones, action cams, games and headsets
