DigiKey enables Europe to Europe direct shipping for Marketplace businesses

The Marketplace is an online platform for an extended list of manufacturers and distributors to sell their products through DigiKey – basically, it is an extension of its line card that still meets the company’s quality standards.

European businesses in DigiKey’s Marketplace can now expand their outreach into other European countries, with direct shipments from European suppliers to European customers now being available through the programme.

The company says that currently 30,000 SKUs are eligible for the programme, with more being added daily. It explains that – with products not needing to be shipped to its U.S. facilities in order to be shipped back to Europe – more types of products are able to be sold, for example, including lithium batteries, chemicals and adhesives, heavy automation equipment, and solar products. Environmental and cost savings are also realised, it states.

“DigiKey’s Marketplace gives our suppliers and customers in Europe access to more product lines than ever before and we are thrilled to offer this direct shipping option in the region,” said Missy Hall, DigiKey’s vp of new market development.

“By allowing for additional cost savings, efficiency and more sustainability, as well as a wider variety of products that are able to be sold in Europe, we can accelerate progress for engineers and designers.”

Shipments sent within Europe should typically arrive the next day rather than the previous speed of a couple of days.

Note that DigiKey still handles the entire transaction, highlighting that it “stands behind every order”.

DigiKey Marketplace

The DigiKey Marketplace started in the summer of 2020.

It was launched, said DigiKey previously, “to give engineers and innovators access to more product lines than ever before, through a one-stop shopping experience that serves the entire ecosystem of technology innovation.”

As well as addressing the component shortage, the Marketplace partnerships also guarantee authentic components, highlighted the distributor. Marketplace vendors are reviewed and vetted by DigiKey.
