Durham start-up eVince Technology has demonstrated a 9.5kV diamond diode using solid-state field-emission, and plans develop a 15,000V diamond transistor for the power industry. First to market will be a 10,000V fast recovery diode for MW-scale motor controllers, in late 2010 said eVince.

xG Rides Again

You could have knocked me down with a feather to see xG Technology raise its head above the parapet again, this time by announcing, earlier this week, it had made a profit of over $1 million on $8 million revenues for the first half of the year.

Chip inventory levels hit new low

“Having seen their inventories swell to excess in 2008, semiconductor suppliers acted quickly to reduce inventory. However the pendulum swung too far in the opposite direction in the second quarter, leaving inventories at lean levels,” said Carlo Ciriello, financial analyst for iSuppli

How to design LED streetlamp driver circuits

LEDs paired with good thermal management and robust drive electronics have real value. This article proposes an electrical drive solution that balances higher initial cost with long life – at least as long as the LEDs themselves
